Your car’s cooling system is very important for the car’s well-being. If you can keep the whole cooling system working perfectly, it is then most likely that you won’t have any cases of the car overheating even on long journeys. One way of ensuring this is by flushing your car’s cooling system to diagnose any problems, as well as unclog any clogged tubes within the same.
How do you flush your car’s cooling system? We will discuss a few areas where you can maintain and service by yourself.
1. The radiator
A car’s radiator is the central cooling system in your car, and should always be in a good condition. One of the major problems with it includes leakages, blocked tubes and the coolant having particles that settle on the radiator’s base. The best way to do this is by opening both the inlet and the drainage cap. Then pushing pressurized water through. The pressure will drain away any sediment and maybe unclog blocked tubes within the same. It is therefore important that you use clean engine water for this purpose.
2. The Radiator water pump
Most of the cooling problems in cars are as a result of a malfunctioning radiator water pump. To ensure this is working perfectly, have a technician service it and run it for about 30 minutes to ensure it pumps water as required through the radiator. Most of the water pump woes are as a result of using dirty sediment water out of desperation. Have your mechanic advice you accordingly on the best water to use as a coolant for your vehicle.
3. Flushing the radiator tank
The radiator tank contains reserve and overflow water from and to the engine. The tank should be free from sediments and other particles that may clog the cooling system. It is therefore important for one to make a point of flushing and cleaning the radiator tank off these materials
Benefits of flushing your car’s cooling system
The cooling system is important for your car’s engine well-being. One thing you will notice with new cars is that they tend to perform well than when they have been used for some time. They are even quieter and more comfortable to drive in. The reason behind this is because the car’s cooling system is working perfectly and nothing is malfunctioning. It is also important to note that the car’s engine oil contributes to how hot the car will get. Flushing the whole of the cooling system places the car in the same state, and you will notice improvements in its performance.
Dust and particles around the radiator can also cause enormous heating problems for the car. Some of these dust particles find their way into the radiator tank, clog the cooling fan and other parts exposed to the same. Having these cleaned ensures that the cooling system performs perfectly and this increases its performance too.
This exercise is especially important before and after the hot season, when the weather is hot and the car is exposed to extreme hot temperatures while in operation.
Our mechanic will test your engine coolant and if required can do a radiator flush.
