Car Parts That Need Regular Care
As a car owner, it is your responsibility to regularly maintain your vehicle and ensure that it is in optimal condition. It is one of the most important things to do in order to prevent issues and damage, however, it can be confusing working out what preventative maintenance is, how to do it and when you should do it!
The First Step: Read Your Owner’s Manual
No matter what type or year of car you drive, your vehicles manual will have a maintenance schedule inside of it that will suggest how often oil, filters, timing belts and other details need to be changed. If it’s a new vehicle it will also tell you what the warranty is for certain parts and when to check them before its due.
The Second Step: Do the Basics
The basic being: checking to make sure that your lights are working, checking the air pressure of your tyres once per month, listening and being aware of any abnormal sounds or noises inside and out, checking your fluid levels and topping up any that are low, inspect your timing belts and get them replaced by a mechanic when needed before they fail, check and change your oil regularly, check and clean your battery and its connections, replace worn or streaky windshield wipers, replace your engine air filter, have your tyres aligned and checked and change your spark plugs.
Don’t panic, it may seem like a lot, but most of those things can be done for you by your mechanic. They will also let you know what needs to be done when and assist you with all of it as needed.
Create a Schedule
Maintaining a maintenance schedule is important, so learning what you need to do to your car on a regular basis is key. Using technology can help, like creating a list of tasks done, and tasks coming due in order to remind you. There are also some app’s that you can download online onto your phone that will assist with your car maintenance schedule.
Consult a Mechanic
Some work is better left to the professionals. Don’t ignore work or services that need to be done simply because they need a mechanic to do them. It may feel like an inconvenience, but it is so essential to the optimal running and maintenance of your car!
